AR/VR to get a boost from Metaverse

There are so many recent technologies that have made a huge impact on the world. Others are quite controversial. One of the recent technologies that are shaping the behavior of people is Metaverse. For those of us who are not aware of what Metaverse is, below is a brief example to help you get an idea. A shared, virtual 3D world termed metaverse permits users to interact with each other, avatars, and other items generated using computers.

This is a virtual world where the Internet acts as the main network. The widespread use of metaverses includes instruction, social networking, training, and online gaming. They can be utilized to build fictional worlds, wholly other, or virtual worlds that resemble the real world closely. They offer an immersive and singular online experience that cannot be matched by anything else. They render numerous opportunities for connection and exploration while improving and growing continuously.

Virtual reality

You may hear more talk about the Metaverse now than ever before as a result of Facebook’s changing its name to Meta. But is this a truly novel idea? Or is it a recent development? Although the metaverse has been described as a larger and more extreme version of virtual reality, the game industry has already embraced its most basic form. For instance, take the video game Fortnite. Users in this game have a unique avatar that they may use to communicate with other players, acquire virtual currency, swap out costumes, and more.

During the next two years, the number of VR and AR headset shipments will significantly rise. Shipments of AR/VR devices are predicted to climb by 36% year over year, from 9.86 million in 2021 to 14.19 million in 2022. Due to the popularity of the Metaverse, 18.8 million AR/VR device shipments are anticipated in 2023. The Metaverse has inspired brands to actively plan for and boost the performance of product shipments.

Due to a lack of components and the complexity of creating new technologies, the AR/VR device industry has not yet grown rapidly. The idea of the Metaverse has gained popularity recently among both businesses and customers. Gartner, a data insights company, predicts that by 2026, 30% of all businesses will have services and products specifically created for the Metaverse, and 25% of all internet users will spend at least one hour per day engaging in activities such as shopping, work, learning, entertainment, and socializing in the Metaverse.

Mixed reality

Although Meta and Microsoft currently have the top positions in the VR and AR headset markets, respectively, may this situation alter with the impending releases from Apple and Sony? The mixed reality headset was supposed to be Apple’s first significant new release since the Apple watch in 2015, and it was supposed to be revealed at this year’s WWDC in June. It has become more difficult to keep on course, though, because of development issues linked to overheating, cameras, and software.

Apple has decided to postpone the unveiling until the end of 2022 or possibly even early 2023 due to these problems. For PSVR 2, which was formally unveiled at CES 2022, rumors point to a holiday 2022 delivery timeframe. The timing of Sony and Apple’s product debuts makes it unlikely that the total AR/VR sector will experience considerable growth this year. Neither will a Google launch; the company’s new AR headset will start shipping in 2024.

The device, code-named “Project Iris,” will have cameras that face the outside and incorporate augmented reality into a video feed of the user’s actual surroundings. When such new headsets do come out, they will definitely spark additional interest and adoption, supporting the idea and growth of the Metaverse even more.
