The new Twitter Blue has come after a tricky start in the past few weeks. The program, which costs 8 dollars per month for users in the United States, gives users access to fast account verification as well as a blue checkmark that appears next to their tweets and on their profile page. It is also not known the moment Twitter Blue is going to launch in regions other than those where it presently operates as of right now.
The subscription includes the ability for you to view half as much advertising and also to upload videos that are longer, which Elon Musk, the owner and CEO of Twitter, previously revealed will be included in the package. This was part of the long-term plan that Elon Musk had in place if he was to acquire the platform.
Since completing his acquisition of the business recently, Elon Musk has promoted paid verification accounts as a strategy for making Twitter financially sustainable and boosting platform trust. However, a lot of people were fast to criticize the service which was likely to have the opposite effect given practically anyone for that matter could pay for verification and then change the account name of their account to mimic another user.
Identity Verification
Elon Musk warned users who had the habit of impersonating other users would have to explicitly identify they were operating a parody account. Failure to do so will earn them a permanent ban after a few verified “blue-check” users modified their accounts to impersonate Musk.
To stop new accounts from receiving a blue checkmark, Twitter changed the criteria for its $8 Blue membership program. Accounts created on or after November 9th, 2022 are not going to be allowed to subscribe to Twitter Blue at this time, the company made it clear on the service’s support page. Twitter Blue is exclusively accessible to iOS users in the US, Australia, Canada, the UK, and Canada, with intentions to extend in the future.
Although Twitter did not provide an explanation for the limitation on new accounts, the action was taken as a result of several impersonators purchasing verified status. The new Twitter Blue was introduced sometime last month, and it allowed users to purchase benefits like fast verification in order to obtain the previously elusive blue checkmark.
