Tesla integrating Dolby Atmos in its electric vehicles

There may soon be a significant audio upgrade for the more than a million Tesla cars now on the road. The automaker intends to equip both existing and new Tesla vehicles with immersive surround sound using Dolby Atmos. The technology will come standard in new autos. Dolby Atmos will be added to existing vehicles via a software upgrade. Dolby Atmos produces an engaging auditory experience. It is the next generation of surround sound, and it can now be used in automobiles in addition to movie theatres.

The 128 audio channels used by the Dolby Atmos system enable it to disperse any kind of sound around the space. It accomplishes this by combining speakers with extras scattered throughout the area, such as ceiling reflectors, to provide the desired effect. Since its debut, it has appeared in blockbuster Hollywood movies. Tesla’s premium audio feature, which uses height speakers installed in the pillars to produce the ceiling sound needed by Dolby Atmos, will be necessary for the Atmos upgrade.

Premium sound

All Model X and Model S vehicles, as well as the Awd and Performance versions of the Model Y and Model 3, now come included with the Premium Audio option, which previously came at an additional cost. It is unlikely to receive the upgrade because the base Model 3 SR does not come standard with the Premium Audio option. This follows the addition of Apple Music to the Tesla Model S.

It makes it likely that Dolby Atmos and Apple Music would release at the same time or close to it, as Apple Music is among the few digital services that currently support Atmos. The other two are TIDAL and Amazon HD. Tesla has been collaborating with big labels to introduce Dolby Atmos to their automobiles, which would give a very immersive audio experience to tunes, podcasts, and films. The big recording companies bring in their audio expertise to the relationship.

Lossless audio

The first automaker to integrate Dolby Atmos technology into their luxury EV was Lucid Motors. Volvo and Mercedes-Benz both made announcements about adding Dolby Atmos functionality to more of their automobiles. CEO Elon Musk made a suggestion about lossless audio support. TIDAL currently offers lossless audio support, but only for downloaded files, not streaming. A number of streaming services, including Netflix and Disney+, that are already accessible in Teslas, provide Dolby Atmos compressed surround sound in addition to 5.1 surround sound.

Tesla’s streaming services that offer Dolby Atmos as an audio option may eventually support the format. This development will add to the experience of car users. The next update has sparked expectations for Apple Music to be included as well in other Tesla models. The Dolby Atmos upgrade is anticipated by many Tesla customers. The best thing to do is just to be on the lookout for any fresh information.
