Nintendo has announced that the popular racing game, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, will be receiving a March update with new tracks and playable characters. The fourth Booster Course Pass pack will launch on March 9th, just a day before “Mario Day” on March 10th. Alongside remastered courses from other Mario Kart games, a brand-new track inspired by the SNES classic Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island called Yoshi’s Island will be added to the game.
In addition to the new track, the Fruit Cup will include other tracks such as Tour Amsterdam Drift from Mario Kart Tour, GBA Riverside Park from Mario Kart: Super Circuit, and Wii DK Summit from Mario Kart Wii. The Boomerang Cup will feature Mario Kart Tour tracks Tour Bangkok Rush and Tour Singapore Speedway, along with DS Mario Circuit from Mario Kart DS, and GCN Waluigi Stadium from Mario Kart: Double-Dash!. The Booster Course Pass also includes two more bundles of eight courses, which can be bought outright for $25 or accessed via the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack service, priced at $50 per year or $80 per year for the family plan.
The update also brings new playable characters to the game, with the first being the return of Birdo. The game’s fans have been waiting for Birdo’s reappearance in the series since it was last seen in Mario Kart Wii.
To access the DLC, players need to own Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. The game has already sold over 35 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling games of all time. Players who have yet to own a copy of the game can grab it at a discounted price when it goes on sale between March 5th and 11th at select retailers.
The update will likely excite the game’s players and help Nintendo maintain its strong foothold in the gaming market.
