Our team at AppleMagazine did tell you just over a month ago that we would let you know if there was any news of the highly rated Apple TV+ comedy series Acapulco getting a second season – and sure enough, that is exactly what has happened.
Executive-produced by Eugenio Derbez, the Spanish and English-language series tells the story of twenty-something Máximo Gallardo (Enrique Arrizon), who realizes his dream in 1984 when he gets the job of a lifetime as a cabana boy at Acapulco’s hottest resort.
The second season will be set in 1985, picking up where season one left off. It will see the young Máximo being forced to deal with upheaval at the resort, in addition to unexpected issues at home, and even a new love interest who just might rival the girl of his dreams.
Alongside this, we will see the older, present-day Máximo (played by Derbez) arrive in Acapulco, where he comes across various people from his past, for better and worse.
Other members of the cast include Fernando Carsa, Camila Perez, Damián Alcázar, Regina Reynoso, Chord Overstreet, Vanessa Bauche, Raphael Alejandro, Rafael Cebrián, Jessica Collins, Regina Orozco and Carlos Corona.
The series was created by Austin Winsberg, Eduardo Cisneros, and Jason Shuman, and was inspired by 3Pas Studios and Pantelion Films’ 2017 comedy movie, How to Be a Latin Lover. It is produced by Lionsgate Television, 3Pas Studios, and The Tannenbaum Company.
The showrunner is Chris Harris, who also serves as executive producer on the project alongside Winsberg, Cisneros, and Shuman. Also involved in the executive production of the series are Ben Odell and Sonia Gambaro on behalf of 3Pas Studios, and Eric and Kim Tannenbaum along with Jason Wang for The Tannenbaum Company. Jay Karas will be both an executive producer and director.
Production on season two is expected to begin in the spring, including filming on location in Mexico.
We know that the renewal of the show for another season will be extremely exciting news for many of you, including one person who contacted us earlier this year to describe the first season as “the best family comedy series I have ever watched”. Here at AppleMagazine, we very much share that enthusiasm, and can’t wait to see where the adventures of Máximo take him next!
