Google Translate now offers a new feature that allows users to convert text from images on its web platform. With this new addition, the translation process has become more convenient and efficient than ever before. The feature utilizes the same cutting-edge technology that powers Google Lens’ AR Translate tool, which is capable of performing real-time translations on smartphones.
To access this feature, all you have to do is go to the Google Translate website and click on the new “Images” tab located at the top of the page. Once you have uploaded the desired image or screenshot from your computer, the translated text will appear seamlessly in most cases. The web interface includes various options, such as copying the text, downloading the translated image, or clearing it. Moreover, Google Translate supports a whopping 113 source languages that it can automatically detect and 133 destination languages.
The “Lens translate” branding that appears below the result indicates that the same generative adversarial networks (GAN) that power the AR Translate for Google Lens is used for this feature. While Lens has been able to translate images on mobile devices for years, the latest version, which was introduced last year, utilizes the same technology that powers the company’s Magic Eraser. This feature debuted on the Pixel 6 but is now available on older Pixels and Google One. This ensures that the translated text appears to replace the original text instead of simply superimposing it on top, which makes the translation process much smoother and more efficient.
This feature is just one of the many ways that Google is using cutting-edge technology to make our lives easier and more convenient.
