BMW has unveiled a series of new electric vehicles (EVs) as a part of its summer 2023 offerings. These additions encompass the i4 xDrive 40 (an all-wheel-drive iteration of the i4), the single-motor i7 eDrive50, and the hybrid 750e xDrive. Alongside these releases, the automaker disclosed updates to its infotainment operating system for select models.
The 2024 i4 xDrive40 is an all-wheel-drive version of the renowned Gran Coupe with a robust 396 horsepower. This dual-motor, all-electric vehicle delivers a projected range of approximately 307 miles with standard 18-inch tires (which decreases to around 282 miles when equipped with optional 19-inch wheels). Boasting a 0-60 acceleration time of 4.9 seconds, the i4 xDrive40 is expected to be available for US-based delivery in the third quarter of 2023, starting at $61,600, plus an additional $995 destination fee.
On the other hand, the rear-wheel-drive i7 eDrive50, powered by a single GEN5 motor, delivers a hefty 449 horsepower. BMW will reveal further details regarding its range and performance closer to its market debut this fall. The starting price for this model will be $105,700, plus the destination fee.
Lastly, the 750e xDrive is a hybrid, coupling a 308-horsepower six-cylinder combustion engine with a 194-horsepower electric motor, providing 483 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. The plug-in hybrid’s purely electric range is rated at 35 miles. This model will also debut in the US this fall, starting at $107,000, in addition to the same $995 destination fee.
In tandem with the new vehicles, BMW is also enhancing its infotainment operating system for selected models. BMW Operating System 8.5 delivers “clearly arranged functions” designed to better suit the company’s curved display. Adopting a “zero-layer principle,” the system does away with sub-menus, presenting all vital controls and information on a single level, arranged vertically on the driver’s side.
The system also includes shortcut icons to swiftly access the climate control menu, app library, navigation, and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto.
