Apple TV+ has racked up even more nominations for its programming this award season, this time bagging eight nominations for the upcoming British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) television awards.
The nominations are split between the British Academy Television Awards and the separate British Academy Television Craft Awards. Among the Apple TV+ shows to have been nominated are Foundation and 9/11: Inside the President’s War Room, although it is worth noting that the British organization is not acknowledging Apple TV+ for all of them.
Apple is not being recognized by BAFTA in the case of 9/11: Inside the President’s War Room, due to the show having been made by Wish/Art Films for both Apple TV+ and the BBC One channel in the UK.
The documentary about the George W. Bush administration’s immediate response to the September 11 attacks has been handed two nominations, and BAFTA is crediting it to Wish/Art Films and BBC One, given that these are the entities responsible for broadcasting the film in the UK.
Meanwhile, Leah Harvey has earned a nomination for her starring role as Salvor Hardin in Foundation, in the Supporting Actress category – presumably entered into that category by the Foundation producers due to them regarding the show as an ensemble piece.
The BAFTA TV Awards are scheduled for May 8, 2022, when it will be discovered who has won in Leah Harvey’s category. This date will also see the announcement of the winner of the Single Documentary category, in which 9/11: Inside the President’s War Room has been nominated.
Before that, however – on April 24, 2022 – the separate BAFTA TV Craft Awards will be held, with 9/11 in contention for the Editing: Factual accolade. This awards night will also reveal whether Earth at Night in Color has been triumphant in the Special, Visual & Graphics Effects category.
