There has been much speculation about Apple’s rumored virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) products. The company is said to be working on a standalone VR headset with dual 8K displays and a wide field of view, as well as AR glasses with a high-resolution display and a wide field of view. These products have not yet been officially announced by Apple.
According to reports, the VR headset would have a fabric exterior for comfort and reduced weight, and a built-in fan to keep the device cool during use. It would also feature a high refresh rate and low latency, as well as motion tracking technology. The AR glasses, on the other hand, are rumored to use a waveguide display and to feature sensors such as cameras and depth sensors for accurate tracking of the user and environment. They may also include voice control and gesture recognition.
While it is not clear when or if these products will be released, Apple’s history of innovation and its recent acquisitions and hires in the VR and AR space suggest that the company is interested in these technologies. In 2017, Apple acquired VR company Vilynx, and in 2019 it hired AR and VR experts from companies including Microsoft and Oculus. It is possible that we will see Apple unveil VR and AR products in the future.
